On The Way Payments for March & April: $5,180 in Social Security, $967 in SSI, Plus $6,710 in Retroactive Benefits

Millions of Americans will receive Social Security payments in March and April 2025, benefiting from the 2.5% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).

Some may also qualify for an extra $967 per month in Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Additionally, eligible retirees and public sector workers impacted by past reductions may receive a retroactive payment of up to $6,710 as part of the Social Security Fairness Act.

Who Gets Social Security on March 12?

The March 12 payment is for retirees who:

  1. Have a birthday between the 1st and 10th of any month
  2. Started receiving benefits after May 1997

This payment includes the 2.5% COLA increase, bringing the maximum benefit to $5,180 per month for those who qualify.

$6,710 in Retroactive Social Security Payments

Due to changes in the Social Security Fairness Act, the SSA is sending retroactive payments to those previously affected by the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).

More than $7.5 billion has already been distributed to eligible public sector retirees, including firefighters, police officers, and teachers.

  1. Average retroactive payment: $6,710
  2. Over 1.1 million Americans have already received their payment
  3. Updated benefits expected in April 2025 disbursement

If you believe you're eligible but haven't received your payment yet, contact the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 and say "Fairness Act" to reach a trained representative.

Can You Get an Extra $967 in SSI?

Some Social Security recipients may also qualify for up to $967 per month in SSI. Eligibility requirements include:

  1. Being 65+ or having a qualifying disability
  2. Having limited income and financial resources

SSI amounts adjust based on income, so payments vary.
