Michigan Unemployment Benefits 2026: How Much Will They Increase?

Michigan has increased unemployment benefits starting January 1, 2026, through bipartisan legislation that adjusts payments to current living costs.


This update provides immediate financial relief to thousands of unemployed workers while introducing stricter job search requirements.

2026 Weekly Benefit Increases

  • Maximum weekly benefit: Rises from $446 (2025) to $530 (2026).

  • Dependent allowance: Increases from $12.66 per dependent to $19.33 (52.7% boost).

  • Duration: Up to 26 weeks of coverage restored.

Important: These new rates apply only to claims filed in 2026. Existing 2025 claims continue at old rates.
 

New Job Search Requirements (2026)

The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) now requires:

Failure to comply may delay or stop payments.

  • Weekly certifications: Report job searches online weekly.

  • Payment method: Direct deposit or prepaid debit card.
